Bequest of Olga Jančić

Olga Jančić (b. 1929), a sculptor, made in 1993 a bequest to the City of Belgrade of ninety sculptures in bronze, stone and plaster. Work of Olga Jančić represents a move of our art, especially of sculpture, towards new artistic tendencies during the period after the WW II, regarding the acceptance of abstract art principles with a starting point in figure. Her work has always been interwoven with intimate currents, sensuality, emotion and special vitality that can be seen as an internal urge towards the materialization of the forces of life.

Work of Olga Jančić is standing on the border between hidden and revealed, material and ethereal. The relations to he body, maternity, love, fertility and erotica are distinguished as a special thematic.

Henry Moore and Ossip Zadkine noted her early works during 1950s (Biennale of the Young Artists, Sao Paulo, 1952).

Today Olga Jančić lives and works in Belgrade.
